About the Journal

Humanity: Jos Journal of General Studies (HJJGS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access multidisciplinary journal published by the Directorate of General Studies, University of Jos, Nigeria. It appears twice a year.

Our purpose

General Studies is where every university student meets the questions that cut across disciplines: language and communication, the history and cultures of Nigeria, philosophy and logic, citizenship and governance, peace and conflict, entrepreneurship and the uses of science in society. HJJGS carries that same breadth into research. It gives scholars a single forum for work in the humanities, the social sciences and education, and for studies from other fields that speak to a general academic readership.

Most of what the journal publishes is about Nigeria and Africa: their languages and literatures, faiths, histories and performing arts, their schools and classrooms, their media, economies and institutions, and the communities of the Jos Plateau and the Middle Belt. It especially welcomes work that links scholarship to national development, social cohesion and public life.

Contributions are welcome from lecturers, researchers, postgraduate students and practitioners at any institution, in Nigeria or abroad.
