The Relationship between Motivation and Job Performance Among Staff of Nigerian Breweries (NB Plc) and Nigeria National Petroleum Corperation (NNPC) Makurdi

The study investigated the relationship between motivation and job performance among staff of Nigerian Breweries (NB Plc) and Nigeria National petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Makurdi depots Benue State. The study adopted a survey design, where 170 staff of Nigerian Breweries (NB Plc) and Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation consisting of 89 (52.4%) males and 81 (47.6%) females were selected using simple random sampling method. Their age ranges from 20-61 years and above with the mean age of 2.4176 and SD=.78. Socio-demographic data and questionnaire from Human Resources Management Practice Works, the Work Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation Scale (WEIMS) and Performance Appraisal Scale (PPS) were the instruments used for collection of data. Statistical analysis involved the use of independent t-test, Pearson product correlation and One-way (ANOVA). Findings showed that there was a significant relationship between motivation and job performance among the employees. Further findings showed that there was no significant age difference in performance among staff of NigerianBreweries (NB Plc)) and Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation depots in Makurdi metropolis. It was recommended that the organizations management should recognize every employee for giving suggestions and their staff should be able to participate in decision making and other reward system to boost their performance.
