MANAGEMENT OF DISCIPLINARY PROBLEMS IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA

The purpose of the study was to investigate the management of disciplinary problems among public secondary schools. The study also aimed to examine the forms of disciplinary management styles and their effectiveness. The findings revealed various forms of indiscipline which include: disorderliness in the classrooms, disrespect for teacher's truancy, fighting among students, theft, and many others. The findings also revealed that student disciplinary management systems have positive/negative effects on the management of students' discipline especially when teachers and school managers are involved. The study recommended that all stakeholders in education should always be involved in disciplinary issues. It also recommended that government should provide adequate and effective teacher development skills. Government should ensure proper supervision and inspection of private secondary schools for effective productivity. The study further recommended that stakeholders in education should find ways of creating conducive learning/teaching environment for students and teachers.
